The broad range of cut-off wheels for stationary applications has been specifically tailored towards cutting solid material, profiles, pipes, rails and laboratory samples, as well as for producing precision cuts. PFERD stationary cut-off wheels are suitable for use on steel, stainless steel (INOX), cast iron, stone, plastics, aluminium and other non-ferrous metals.

The cut-off wheels are available in three grades of quality: our "Universal Line" introductory range, our "Performance Line" with its high-performance tools, and our "Special Line" for very specific applications and ultimate economic efficiency. On request, we can produce stationary cut-off wheels in premium PFERD quality up to a diameter of 2000 mm, tailor-made to meet the requirements of your job.

In order to find the perfect tool solution for your stationary cut-off wheel, certain information is required upfront. Our technical advisers would be pleased to help you with this.

1. Our technical advisers will analyze your current set-up.

They will visit you on site to see the machine, application and the wheel dimensions. PFERD will determine the wheel thickness based on the loads exerted on it. The drive output of the machine motor and the diameter of the clamping flange are further important parameters for correctly selecting the most suitable cut-off wheel. In addition, initial samples can be produced with a standard wheel to obtain findings that will help refine the subsequent development work for your bespoke product.

2. What are the operating conditions and which cross sections need to be cut?

It is important to know the operating conditions for the machine and tool. A distinction is made between cold (up to 100°C), warm (100 to 600°C) and hot cutting-off (600 to 1000°C), depending on the material temperature of the workpieces being cut. Based on the operating conditions and cross sections, you can determine which wheel diameter is required and recommended. The wheel diameter depends only on the machine on site, not the cross section.

3. What are the requirements for the cuts?

Ideally, the formation of burrs on the material should be minimized to negate the need for reworking. The cut also needs to be perpendicular, regardless of which cutting method you are using. When it comes to cold cutting-off, it is important that the cut surface is blank (no blue or brown discolouration) and that the heat ingress into the material is minimal to prevent hard spots at the ends of the cut.
